The Thompson Warriors are on top of their game.
THS finished the Gulf Coast Invitational at Gulf Shores 4-0 last week, falling behind only Pinson Valley for the tournament&8217;s top spot.
The Warriors gave up a total of nine runs over the four games compared to Pinson Valley&8217;s three.
&8220;We played pretty good defense,&8221; head coach Pat Hamrick said. &8220;But the most important thing was that our hitting finally came around.&8221;
In the Warriors&8217; final game of the tournament, a 12-1 trouncing of Buckhorn, THS dominated from the plate.
Senior Chris Myles finished the game 3-for-5 from the plate with one RBI and one run scored. Myles&8217; teammate Nick Harris finished batting 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
&8220;Nick had a great tournament for us,&8221; Hamrick said. &8220;Chris Myles and Joe Sparacino also played great for us.&8221;
Sparacino currently leads the team in hitting this season, hitting 19-of-41 on the season for a .463 average and 20 RBIs.
Hamrick said his team still has a lot of work to do as they begin the second half of area play this week.
The Warriors played the Hoover Bucs last night and face Spain Park on Friday night in region play.
&8220;We need to continue to get better in a lot of areas,&8221; Hamrick said, &8220;and the rest will take care of itself.&8221;
THS plays Briarwood Christian in a non-area game tonight at 6:30 p.m
