Elizabeth &8220;Beth&8221; Goggins, an 18-year-old senior at Calera High School, is &8220;Shelby County Reporter&8221; Student of the Week.

Assistant CHS Principal Brent Copes selected her for the honor.

Copes called Beth &8220;a wonderful student&8221; and &8220;an all around excellent student.&8221; He said, &8220;She has a great attitude and has a lot of self-confidence. Many of our students look up to her because of her caring attitude.

When I think of a role model for our younger students, she is one of the first names that comes to my mind.&8221;

Beth is the daughter of Nevis and Charlie Goggins. She has one sister, Amy Goggins, 23. And she is the granddaughter of Colleen Mitchell and Charles Goggins.

Beth said her favorite subject in school is &8220;probably science&8221; because, &8220;I like learning about the details of life.&8221;

She said her favorite teacher was her kindergarten teacher Lynn Wright, who taught at Calera Elementary School.

&8220;She just made a really big impact on my life. She made me realize I wanted to be an elementary school teacher,&8221; said Beth.

Beth is a varsity cheerleader,

a member of the Future Career Community Leaders of America and has been on the AB Honor Roll and nominated for Calera High School student of the month.

She also said, &8220;I love spending time with family and friends. I love to cheer, and I&8217;m going to miss it. And I love being around kids.&8221;

Beth said her grandmother, Colleen, is her favorite superhero, &8220;Because she&8217;s such a strong woman. She&8217;s been through a lot.&8221; And because, &8220;She&8217;s always so good to people.&8221;

As to the future, Beth wants to teach elementary school.

She explained, &8220;I love kids. And I think teachers teach the skills we need for life. They are not appreciated enough. And I want to help like my teachers helped me.&8221;

Beth said she plans to attend the University of Montevallo to major in elementary education
