Qualifying has come and gone.
We know who the candidates are and we know what they stand for.
Or do we?
On June 6 thousands of Shelby County resident will do their civic duties of heading to the polls and casting their votes.
There are a number of positions up for re-election within our county, including sheriff, school superintendent, two school board positions and circuit clerk.
Using these positions as examples, it becaomes all too clear how important making ther right decision on election day will be.
We&8217;re talking about picking who will make potentially life-changing decisions about our childrens&8217; academic career.
Who will be in charge of ensuring our families&8217; safety in our own homes and communities?
Who will we pick to run such an important office as that of the circuit clerk?
Every decision we make on June 6 may prove to effect our way of life more than could ever be imagined when we stepped inside the voting booth and carelessly voted for candidates we knew little or nothing about.
Alabama and Shelby County are less than two months away from picking some of our community&8217;s most important and influencial leaders.
Voting is talked about as a civil responsibility, a right and a freedom that we get to enjoy as Americans.
Using that train of thought, the responsibility of researching and choosing wisely which candidate we will vote for on June 6 should be just as important as actually heading to the polls
