Siluria Baptist Church in Alabaster has been a part of the community since 1911.
The church was built in conjunction with a plantation that belonged to the Thompson family.
A great revival was held in June 1923, with 78 additions coming to the church, 56 by baptism and 22 by transfer of letter.
It took 25 years for the church to commit to a new and larger church but in 1948 a drive was started.
On Sept. 2, 1951, the new brick church was dedicated.
The church currently encompasses 15,000 square feet and has about 400 members.
Siluria Baptist recently welcomed a new pastor in Gary Jones, formerly of Fourmile Baptist Church. John Dennis serves as the minister of music for the church and Don Page as the minister of youth.
&8220;Siluria Baptist Church will love, reach and teach all people to accept Christ and grow in his likeness,&8221; the church&8217;s mission statement reads.
Siluria has a full calendar of events for members and the local community to take part in each month.
Some of these events include Vacation Bible School, scheduled for June 25-30, and expanding youth, seniors and outreach ministries. The church offers a children&8217;s program and youth group events as well as adult Bible studies and prayer times on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
