CALERA – The city of Calera will honor local breast cancer survivors and their families Friday night at Calera High School’s final home football game of the season.

The school will be blanketed in pink, and survivors will be recognized on the field at 6:30 p.m. The game starts at 7.

The city’s campaign to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer has been ongoing throughout the month of October.

The Calera fire and police departments, high school and chamber of commerce have sold specially designed pink T-shirts for $10. All proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.

Calera’s “Pink Week” begins with the football game and continues through Nov. 3 with a two-person team golf tournament at Timberline. Player registration is $80 per person, with a portion of the proceeds going to BCRFA.

Also, local businesses will be selling pink paper ribbons for $1 throughout “Pink Week.” The ribbons are sold in honor or memory of friends and family. Recognition ribbons will be posted on store windows.

“I am excited about our entire community’s involvement in such a worthy cause,” Calera Mayor Jon Graham said. “We hope to raise lots of money throughout the month of October.”
