More than 80 golfers flocked to the Montevallo Golf Club April 15 as the city’s Chamber of Commerce hosted its yearly golf outing.
The tournament, which was sponsored by Alabama Power, BankTrust, LaFarge, Lucky’s Food Mart, Metrock Steel and Wire, the Shelby County Reporter and Waste Pro, featured one of the largest fields in the tournament’s history.
“It was great. We had so much fun,” said Montevallo Chamber of Commerce President Mary Lou Williams. “We had a significantly larger field than we had last year.”
The Chamber awarded the top five teams out of a field of 20 four-man teams. The team consisting of Mike Jones, Ronnie Miskelley, Darren Stagner and Austin Miskelly took home the tournament’s top prize; and Danny Young, Ryan Pratt, Brittney Ezell and Kelsey Hood won second place.
A team consisting of Fred Winslett, Perry Winslett, Judy Winslett and David Litton took home third place; the Alabama Power team of Neal Massingill, Walter Graham, George Morris and Bill Hoskins won fourth place; and the Insight Engineering team of Brian Shannon, Joshua Hinton, Rob Coleman and Greg Coleman won fifth place.
In the tournament’s putting contest, Tim Durrett took home the top prize and Austin Miskelley won second place.
Before the tournament, Chamber members and city employees joined the golfers for a lunch reception, which was sponsored by CDG Engineering.
Williams praised the tournament participants, saying the event would have been unsuccessful without the large turnout.
“I really appreciated the sponsors, the volunteers and especially the players,” Williams said. “You can spend all the time in the world organizing a great event, but if nobody shows up for it, it won’t be successful.”
