Vincent High School dropped its first Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 2A, Region 4 game of the season Oct. 21 following a 56-26 setback on the road at American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa.
After American Christian took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, Terio Rogers reeled in a 57-yard touchdown pass from Demauntey Johnson with 8:52 remaining in the first half to cut the deficit to 7-6.
Following another touchdown by the Patriots, Jerrious Hamilton returned a kickoff 46 yards for a touchdown with 4:49 left in the first half to cut the lead to 13-12.
The Yellow Jackets answered another score by American Christian with ShaCorry Lilly’s 4-yard touchdown run with 2:12 left in the opening half. Lilly’s plunge into the end zone for the two-point conversion cut the deficit to 21-20 before American Christian scored a touchdown in the final minute of the first half to carry a 28-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Lilly opened the second half with a 5-yard rushing touchdown to cut the deficit to 28-26, but the Yellow Jackets (7-2 overall, 6-1 in Class 2A, Region 4) couldn’t get any closer as American Christian reeled off four unanswered touchdowns to seal the victory.
