Funeral service for Billy C. Thompson, age 74 of Columbiana, was at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at First Baptist Church Columbiana.

Burial followed in Columbiana City Cemetery.

Visitation was Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church Columbiana.

Mr. Thompson, who passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2006 at home, was born on January 30, 1932 in Shelby County, AL. He served as Coroner of Shelby County for 26 years and was in his third term as County Commissioner. Mr. Thompson worked for several funeral homes in the Shelby and Jefferson County areas. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Thompson of Columbiana; one daughter, Cheryl T. Fawal (Salem); two sons Michael C. Thompson (Marquetta) and Ronald L. Thompson, of Birmingham; five grandchildren, Abbey and Payton Thompson and Caroline, Madison and R. J. Thompson all of Birmingham; one brother, Jimmy D. Thompson of Calera; and one sister, Jo Ann Ivey of Vinemont; and several nieces and nephews.
