The owners of Corny Creek Farm in Columbiana are hoping you&8217;ll get lost as soon as you set foot on their property.

Gary and Susan Crumpton have worked diligently over the past year to create and build Shelby County&8217;s first-ever corn maze.

The maze, which opens on Sept. 7 right off of Highway 70, measures four acres in size and will take visitors an estimated 60 minutes to complete the two-mile long labyrinth.

&8220;As a family we&8217;ve been to a number of these,&8221; Gary said. &8220;We stuck with a basic agriculture theme this year but we hope to grow and add something new in the coming years.&8221;

In addition to the maze, visitors to the farm can enjoy a pumpkin patch, hay rides, a mini hay maze, inflatables, a petting farm and a gift shop.

But the Crumpton&8217;s hope the farm serves as more than just a fun day out for families.

&8220;We are hoping families will come and spend some time together,&8221; Susan said. &8220;But we&8217;re offering a lot of teaching resources as well.&8221;

The Crumptons are planning to bring a number of field trips and youth groups to the farm to teach them more about the industry.

&8220;We&8217;re offering activity sheets for teachers, on-site displays, field trip opportunities and a passport that integrates education into the maze experience,&8221; Susan said.

The couple plans to add a number of special events to the farm&8217;s schedule in the future.

&8220;We&8217;re having a bluegrass band out here Sept. 9 and we&8217;re hoping to add more events later on.&8221;

The maze will be open until Nov. 18. Operating hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursdays and Fridays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Daytime admission is $10 for ages 12 and over and $8 for children ages five to 11. Evening admission is $7 for ages 12 and over and $5 for children ages five to 11. Admission for children ages four and under is free.
