Chelsea tops Shades Mountain Christian, Vincent in jamboree

Chelsea hosted Shades Mountain Christian and Vincent in a football jamboree last Friday night.
The Hornets stung Shades Mountain 30-0 in 12-minute and 8-minute quarters of play. The score was 27-0 after the end of the first quarter alone.
While Chelsea also upended Vincent 21-8, the Yellow Jackets actually led the Hornets 8-7 at one point in the contest.
Coach Wade Waldrop said he thought his defense stepped up in the first two quarters of play against Shades Mountain, but came out flat against Vincent.
He also said coach Dwight Spradley&8217;s kids played well and their speed gave Chelsea problems.
Waldrop thought overall, however, his defense played well all night.
He said the Hornets gave up only nine yards rushing to Shades Mountain and only 22 yards rushing against Vincent.
However he said his team needed to work on kickoff coverage noting an 88-yard touchdown kickoff return by Vincent&8217;s Justin Peterson.
&8220;All in all, I was very pleased,&8221; said Waldrop. He said each team got to see enough things to work on.
Against Shades Mountain, Chelsea&8217;s Davin Palmer carried the ball three times for 95 yards while David Strider carried twice for 54 yards.
Quarterback Coty McLaughlin attempted 25 passes for 258 yards. And he &8220;did a good job leading the team.
His backup Blake Yance gained 43 yards on three rushed.
Against Vincent Palmer had six carries for 151 yards and Strider seven for 39.
The Hornets gained five yards on three passes. McLaughlin went 0-1 passing while Yance completed one of three.
Chelsea players scoring against Shades Mountain were:
-Strider on a 48-yard touchdown run and Matt Jordan point after.
-Palmer on a 77-yard touchdown run and missed point after.
-Yance on an 18-yard touchdown run and Jordan point after.
-Yance on a 19-yard touchdown run and missed point after.
-Justin Thomas on a 23-yard field goal.
Chelsea players scording against Vincent were:
-Palmer on a 52-yard touchdown run and Jordan point after.
-Palmer on an 37-yard run to set up Strider two-yard touchdown run and Jordan point after.
uAnd Palmer on an 60-yard touchdown run and Jordan point after.
Vincent fell to Chelsea but defeated Shades Mountain Christian 6-0.
Yellow Jacket head football coach Spradley said following the jamboree, &8220;We&8217;ve still got work to do.&8221;
But he added, &8220;I feel like our guys played hard. We made some mistakes, but overall they were mistakes that could be corrected.&8221;
Vincent&8217;s only touchdown against Chelsea came on the 88-yard kickoff return by Peterson. Peterson also caught a pass from quarterback Corey Deloach for the 2-point conversion.
Against Shades Mountain Christian, Deloach hit Octavious Looney for a 12-yard touchdown strike.
Spradley has praise for his sophomore quarterback. He said the jamboree was his first outing since the spring, &8220;But for as young a player as he is, I thought he played pretty well.&8221;
