&8220;It was exciting when it was over.&8221;

Those were the words of a happy Montevallo High School football coach Jim King after his Dawgs went on the road to beat Billingsley 36-30 in overtime.

The visiting Dawgs were down 22-0 far away from home, but fought back to take the victory.

&8220;I was just real proud of our guys to have such a young team on the road to come back from that deficit to win a ballgame.&8221;

King said senior quarterback Desmond Piper is a leader, a competitor and ultra-talented. While he said Piper can throw a football a mile, he needs to develop touch.

Against Billingsley, Piper connected for touchdowns on passes of 58 yards and 19 yards. He was three for 14 for 86 yards.

King also noted the play of Phillip Evans who scored three touchdowns and who rushed for 131 yards. He scored touchdowns on runs of 67 yards and 25 yards.

But King was also proud of the offensive line including Kyle Stewart, Zac Stansell, Jay Franks, Alex Murdoch and Tremain Smith. He said they controlled the line of scrimmage.

Montevallo rushed for 272 yards on 44 carries and passed for 86 yards. Billingsley gained 291 on 52 carries but passed for a total of 7 yards.

That gave the offensive edge to Montevallo, 358 to 298. Montevallo earned 11 first downs to eight for Billingsley
