The Alabaster-based Chemical Lime Company has agreed to pay $12,500 in fines from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.

The ADEM fines stemmed from air pollution violations by the plant.

An ADEM press release stated that the plant, which is located of Highway 31 near Saginaw, was being fined for &8220;failure to comply with the requirement to maintain and operate air pollution control devices in a manner so as to minimize emissions as set forth by ADEM, as well as failure to comply with reporting requirements.&8221;

ADEM officials cited a disregard for the need to report the pollutant violations as the reason for the fines.

ADEM officials confirmed that the plant had reported to the agency on March 17 regarding faults in its air pollutant monitoring equipment, with some of the faults dating back to November 2005
