Undefeated Lions maul Chambers Academy

The undefeated Kingwood Christian Lions continued to dominate in their region of AISA 2A football last Friday night dumping Chambers Academy 42-7.

&8220;We executed well offensively,&8221; said a pleased Kingwood head football coach Jerry Stearns following his team&8217;s homecoming performance. &8220;We scored the first three times we had the ball.&8221;

Stearns also had praise for his defense, which gave up one score late in the second half. And he said he was proud of his younger players, who got a score for Kingwood in the second half, as well.

This contest was never in doubt as the Lions led 35-0 before Chambers Academy scored in the fourth quarter.

The Lions dominated both on the ground and in the air, out-rushing Chambers Academy 180-118 yards and out-passing the visitors 227-38 yards.

Lions&8217; quarterback Andrew Pearce completed 10 of 15 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns and one interception all in the first half. He also had four carries for 39 yards and a touchdown.

Cody Owens had receptions for 187 yards and three touchdowns all in the first half. And Jonathan Newton led the defense with eight tackles, two assists and one pass knockdown. Jeremy Beauchamp had six tackles, three assists and a half sack, while Chase Laney had two tackles, one assist and a half sack.

In addition to three carries for 40 yards and a touchdown, Eric Marshall had nine tackles and three assists.

Also scoring for Kingwood was Grant Armstrong on a 10-yard run and Derrick Lykins also spelled Pearce late kicking the PATs.

Pearce has already eclipsed the 1,000 yard passing mark this season completing 71 of 141 pass attempts for 1,178 yards and 16 touchdowns. He has been intercepted five times.

Kingwood (6-0, 4-0) will travel to play non-region opponent Patrician Academy this Friday night
