Locals off to nations largest rec. tennis championship

A team from the Shelby County/Birmingham area recently joined recreational tennis teams from around the country to compete for a national title at the USTA League presented by Chrysler in the 2.5 Adult National Championships in Palm Springs, Calif., Oct. 6-8.
The event held at the Doral Desert Princess Resort determines the number one men&8217;s and women&8217;s teams in the country at the 2.5 Adult level.
Representing the USTA&8217;s Southern Section at the Women&8217;s 2.5 were:
Kimberly G. Kugler, Hanceville; Lori A. Kerley, Pelham; Layne Lavett, Pelham; Becky Carey Hollingsworth, Birmingham; Shannon Houser, Birmingham; Kellye Cherice Bryant,
Chelsea; Quida Carol Hickey, Bessemer; Meghan Carey Henig, Birmingham; and Katie Prodoehl, Birmingham.
