Region crown escapes Lions

Kingwood Christian Lions suffered their second loss of the season last Friday night in a contest for the AISA, Class 2A, East Region title.

The Lions fell 46-34 on the road to undefeated Lowndes Academy (5-0, 8-0).

In the loss, quarterback Andrew Pearce completed 22 of 42 passes for 433 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for another 95 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries.

Cody Owens caught 10 passes for 220 yards and a TD.

John Butts had seven catches for 88 yards and Nathan Allen had two catches for 80 yards.

Butts also had 10 tackles and one assist while Eric Marshall had seven tackles and four assists and Jeremy Beauchamp had six tackles and two assists.

Kingwood finished the game with 563 yards of total offense in the loss, versus 474 yards total offense for Lowndes. Lowndes was led by three 100-yard rushers.

The loss drops Kingwood to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in region play.
