Palmer factor gives Chelsea advantage

And down the stretch they come … the regular high school football season is drawing to a close with two games left for AHSAA schools and one game left for AISA schools.

I went 10-2 in my predictions last week to creep back to an accuracy rating of nearly 73 percent at 77-29 on the year.

While I did get some grief last week for picking Pelham to go on the road and beat Thompson, I am ready to pull that kind of stunt again this week.

This week we have another huge cross-county rival match, this time between two 5A teams in the same region with the same record.

-Both Briarwood Christian School and Chelsea are 7-1 overall and 6-0 in Region 5 play.

Briarwood is coming off a 38-14 road win over Moody while Chelsea is coming off a 22-14 road win over Sylacauga.

Once again, I am going for the road team. I just don&8217;t believe Briarwood has faced a player like Davin Palmer. This is an opportunity for Chelsea to step up and give notice that the Hornets have arrived.

Warning! This prediction is based on a healthy Palmer.

Game of the Week Prediction: Chelsea 28, Briarwood 21.

-Calera just laid a woodshed whipping on neighbor and rival Montevallo on the road 50-24 to improve to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in 3A Region 3 play. They will next host region opponent LaFayette, which beat B.B. Comer 50-8.

Prediction: Calera 35, LaFayette 28 in a nail biter.

-AISA Coosa Valley Academy (3-6, 3-5) just fell to Region 1 opponent South Choctaw Academy 47-0 at home. They will next host Region 2 Crenshaw Christian Academy, which beat Abbeville Christian Academy 36-6.

-Oak Mountain is coming off a big 6A win over Mountain Brook 24-16 to improve to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in Region 6 play. However, they must travel to play region power Hoover, which just defeated Homewood 44-21.
