The Oak Mountain High School Eagles did something last Friday night they have never done in school history &045; beat Mountain Brook.

The Eagles welcomed their Spartan visitors with a 24-16 whipping before the home crowd.

Eagles&8217; head football coach Jerry Hood said the win was the first for his school in its seven-year, nine-week history.

He praised Brett Barnhill,

who he said did an outstanding job from his linebacker position including breaking up passes.

He had praise for Richie Fordham who hit Michael Hallman for a 74-yard touchdown strike and Joel Holmes who had a 4-yard touchdown run.

Oak Mountain rushed for 184 yards and passed for 128 yards for a total offensive production of 312 yards.

The Eagles held Mountain Brook to 103 yards rushing and 155 yards passing for 258 yards of total offense.

Scoring for Oak Mountain were Holmes on a 4-yard run, Fordham on a 5-yard run, Hallman on a 74-yard pass from Fordham and Ben Phillips on a 20-yard field goal.

While the Eagles trailed 9-7 at the half, they out scored the Spartans 17-7 in the second half.

Next, the Eagles travel to Hoover.

According to Hood everyone has a chance for the playoffs, except Carver-Birmingham. He said if the Eagles could somehow get a win at Hoover they will be in the playoffs. If not, they will need help in the form of a Spain Park win over Minor.

Oak Mountain improved to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in region play with the victory over Mountain Brook
