Governor

Bob Riley (R): Bob Riley has put what he believes best for our state ahead of politics; a rare quality indeed. Riley has done more to move Alabama forward than any of our state&8217;s recently elected governors; he has the judgment and talent to become one of the most effective governors in the state&8217;s history and we endorse Governor Riley for Governor. Riley&8217;s opponent, Lucy Baxley (D), as given no compelling arguments for how the state would be a better place to raise a family with her in the Governor&8217;s mansion.

Lieutenant Governor

Luther Strange (R): Luther Strange (R) is the most capable candidate for Lieutenant Governor; Strange has a track record of business acumen and political success; both will serve him and our state well in the Lieutenant Governor&8217;s office. Strange&8217;s opponent Jim Folsom, Jr., while carrying an impressive political pedigree, has fallen short of putting forth ideas for making Alabama better.

Strange receives our endorsement for Lieutenant Governor.

Attorney General

Troy King (R): Troy King has been aggressive in prosecuting crime in our state and has earned our endorsement and the opportunity to serve as Attorney General for another term.

Supreme Court Chief Justice

Drayton Nabers, Jr. (R): Chief Justice Drayton Nabers is far and away the most qualified candidate for Supreme Court Chief Justice; he has both the experience in the job and a track record of sound judicial logic.

Alabama is fortunate to have someone of Justice Nabers caliber as Chief Justice and would do well to keep him as such.

Supreme Court Justice, Place 2

Tom Woodall (R): Tom Woodall has been an effective member of the Alabama Supreme Court and receives our endorsement to continue his excellent work as Supreme Court Justice, Place 2.

Supreme Court Justice, Place 3

Lyn Stuart (R): Lyn Stuart has been a hard worker on Alabama&8217;s Supreme Court and has proven her value to the court.

Stuart is a talented justice and receives our endorsement for Supreme Court Justice, Place 3.

Supreme Court Justice, Place 4

Glenn Murdock (R): Glenn Murdock is a talented jurist and has served with distinction on the Civic Court of Appeals.

Court of Civil Appeal Judge, Place 1

Terry Moore (R): Terry Moore would be new to the judiciary office but experience in private practice will give him the tools needed to perform well in the office he seeks; we endorse Moore for Court of Civil Appeals Judge, Place 1

Terri Willingham Thomas (R): Judge Thomas has a sound judicial background and is far and away the best candidate for this important job. Judge Thomas receives our endorsement for Court of Civil Appeals Judge, Place No. 3

Court of Criminal Appeals Judge, Place 1

Greg Shaw (R):

Judge Greg Shaw is the most experienced candidate for Court of Criminal Appeals and receives our endorsement for the office.

Court of Criminal Appeals Judge, Place 2

Kelli Wise (R): Kelli Wise receives our endorsement for Court of Criminal Appeals Judge, Place 2.

Court of Criminal Appeals Judge, Place 3

Sam Welch (R): Sam Welch has impeccable credentials and a track record of sound judicial judgments as the only judge in the 35th judicial circuit.

Welch does not shy away from his concerns that Supreme Court Justice Tom Parker&8217;s interpretation of the role of the judiciary is wrongheaded; we concur enthusiastically.

Secretary of State

Beth Chapman (R): Beth Chapman is far and away the most capable person running for Secretary of State.

Sitting Secretary of State Nancy Worley has utterly failed to fulfill our expectations with disappointments throughout her term such as: wasting taxpayer money on a luxury SUV early in her term as jobs were being lost in her office, and using taxpayer money to fund campaign ads veiled as voter education announcements. We turn now to Beth Chapman, current State Auditor, to return accountability and public service to the Secretary of State&8217;s office.

State Treasurer

Kay Ivey (R): Kay Ivey has done a good job as State Treasurer, has worked to improve the state&8217;s higher education savings plans and overseen a swelling state treasury.

Ivey receives our endorsement for State Treasurer.

State Auditor

Sam Shaw (R): Sam Shaw receives our endorsement for State Auditor.

Commissioner of Agriculture & Industries

Ron Sparks (D): Ron Sparks has performed well as Commissioner of Agriculture & Industries and has earned the opportunity to continue to serve in that capacity and receives our endorsement.

Sparks has not backed away from his convictions, even when doing so would have been the politically expedient thing to do.

Public Service Commissioner, Place 1

John Rice (R): John Rice receives our endorsement for Public Service Commissioner, Place 1.

Public Servie Commissioner, Place 2

Susan Parker (R): Susan Parker receives our endorsement for Public Service Commissioner, Place 2.

Statewide Amendment No. 1

YES: to authorize the City of Prichard to establish an Alabama Foreign Trade Investment Zone.

Statewide

Amendment No. 2

YES: to require a minimum of 10.0 mils be collected in each school district in the form of ad valorem property tax for general public school purposes.

Statewide Amendment No. 3

YES: to allow the Macon County Board of Education to elect board members from four single member districts and the county at large and to provide staggered six year terms

Local Amendment No. 1

YES: to permit the Shelby County Board of Registrars to receive and distribute the list of voters to the public
