Anchal Bunsal, a senior on the Indian Springs volleyball team said there was a curse on her team that it couldn&8217;t win a tournament.

That curse is no more.

The 3A Indian Springs volleyball team has won its first regional title, first sub state tournament and is in the elite eight for a state title for the first time in school history.

Bunsal said with the curse off their backs, &8220;I think it&8217;s pretty amazing. I&8217;m excited. I mean like every year we&8217;ve got progressively better.&8221;

Also excited is Indian Springs first year head volleyball coach Pam Abernathy.

She has been coaching 14 years and this is her third time to take her first year team to the elite eight. But the last state tournament she coached in was seven years ago.

&8220;I&8217;m just so excited for the ladies and for the school and the community because it&8217;s a first time experience and it&8217;s such an awesome experience.&8221;

Indian Springs (24-1) defeated Geneva in the sub state tournament and will play Lexington in the first round of the state volleyball tournament at 9:30 a.m. today.

Team captains include senior Abby Garner and Bunsal.

Garner said of playing for a state title, &8220;It&8217;s exciting to see all of our efforts, you know, finally coming to fruition.&8221;

Starters for Indian Springs also include Jillian Theibert, Megan Eskridge and Marketa Novak.

Other team members include Tullia Ruston, Kari Todd, Pina Sax, Kristen Stich and Rebecca Barr.
