ISABELLA — The Isabella Mustangs and the Vincent Yellow Jackets were neck and neck in the first half Oct. 7, but the second half was nearly all Vincent as the Yellow Jackets went on to win 72-42.

Vincent’s first play was a monster 80-yard touchdown run by Dontravious Moon. Isabella’s Tyler Smith answered on a keeper, tying the game at 6-6.

Then the Yellow Jackets took to the air, as Damauntey Johnson connected with Anterio Rogers for a touchdown, and a two-point conversion made up for a missed PAT.

To start the second quarter, Smith tacked on another touchdown and a conversion to tie the game at 14-14.

Vincent recovered its own fumble, and on the very next play, Johnson found Rogers again for a 57-yard touchdown pass.

Isabella blocked the PAT, allowing them to take the lead on a 51-yard touchdown reception via DeRodgus Campbell.

Then Vincent’s ShaCorry Lilly got his hands on the ball, running it in from the 3, and another conversion made it 28-21 in Vincent’s favor.

Isabella’s Bobby Knox returned the ensuing kickoff for another TD, but Lilly responded with six more points.

With 1:10 left in the half, Smith connected with Campbell to tie the game at 36-36.

The third quarter saw the biggest shift in momentum. On Vincent’s first drive, Lilly ran 34 yards to the end zone. The Mustangs blocked the PAT, but Vincent recovered a fumble on the kickoff, allowing Lilly to score yet again. Damauntey Johnson tacked on two points, making it 50-36.

An interception by Vincent’s Jonathan Sands set up another Lilly touchdown, and later Johnson passed to Moon for six more points.

With 44 seconds left in the third, Johnson ran back an interception for a touchdown, making it 72-36.

Isabella’s Tyler Smith connected with Campbell for a 16-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, but by then the Vincent lead was simply too much.
