HARPERSVILLE – The Town of Harpersville and the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Harpersville Heritage Tour on Oct. 20.
Harpersville Mayor Theoangelo Perkins will guide the tour through the town’s historical sites. The tour will depart from Morgan Creek Vineyards, 181 Morgan Creek Lane, at 5:30 p.m. Attendees will travel by bus through the tour, and walking sites will be visited as well. The tour is free of charge, and refreshments will be provided at the Harpersville Town Hall.
The tour will highlight many of the cities historically registered sites listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. It also showcases two sites, the Chancellor House and the Newman Rock House, which are on the National Register of Historic Places.
Historic sites include the Harpersville Garden of Memories Cemetery, also known as the Harpersville City Cemetery, Klein-Wallace House built in 1841, Chancellor House built in 1935, Old Baker Farm and the City Hall, formerly the community’s elementary school. This will be the fifth year of the tour, and a new addition to the tour will be the Datcher Farm.
“We have so much history right here in Harpersville that people do not know about,” Perkins said in a press release, “and they would be pleasantly surprised if they come and take the tour.”
