HARPERSVILLE – Jerry and Pam Baker of Old Baker Farm plan to spend their fall season hosting locals looking for pumpkins, Christmas trees and a family atmosphere.

“The main thing we have in the fall that people really love is the pumpkin patch,” Pam Baker said. “We grow pumpkins, cotton and Christmas trees. This time of year, it’s pumpkins.”

Baker said due to the hot summer weather, the farm hasn’t been able to produce as many pumpkins as in prior years. The Bakers will be supplementing their pumpkins with ones produced from other farms to handle the influx of locals looking for fall decorations and the basis for their jack-o-lanterns.

The farm’s first fall event will be Western Cowboy Day on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. until dark and Oct. 9 from 1 p.m. until dark. Visitors are asked to wear western getups as they come to see old West re-enactments, where the actors will rob the hayride wagon.

“We have the best time with that,” Baker said. “This past year, we had a lot more people and children with their holsters and guns. They wear the cowboy hats, and they’ll bring little ropes and boots with spurs.”

The Cotton Pickin’ Celebration will be held Oct. 22-23 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The celebration offers a living festival of Civil War re-enactments and Native American history demonstrations.

The fall harvest hours run through Oct. 31, and guests are invited weekdays from 3 p.m. until dark, Saturdays from 9 a.m. until dark and Sundays from 1 p.m. until dark. The admission gate closes at 5 p.m. The Christmas tree farm will be open after Thanksgiving through Dec. 24 from 9 a.m. until dark.
