The wise man in the storm prays to God, not for safety from danger, but deliverance from fear.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

SafeHouse of Shelby County opened a new shelter earlier this week that will allow this wonderful organization to expand its services and to keep safe from harm many more people in need; the opening comes as a result of much work, prayer and generosity.

Since its inception, SafeHouse Shelby County has focused on one basic mission: to help women and children in need and their new facility will allow that mission to be expanded to the benefit of many more people.

SafeHouse has accomplished its mission and more by offering temporary and emergency housing, community outreach services, counseling and a caring hand to women and children in very hard and difficult circumstances. They have helped salvage lives and mend hearts.

Their new building stands not as a symbol of prosperity or growth but as a beacon of hope for those that have none and it comes thanks to the generosity of many in our community. People like Caroline Jackson have made significant contributions to make this new facility become a reality; Mrs. Jackson, her family and many other groups and individuals have helped yet unknown individuals for decades to come.

Shelby County is a wonderful place to call home but there is still a dramatic need for a place someone can turn to when there is nowhere else to go. SafeHouse provides that place.

If you would like to learn more about SafeHouse, their mission or how you can help please find information on how to reach them below. The generosity of our community undoubtedly came as no surprise to the people at SafeHouse; kind and generous people have and continue to give of their time, their talents and their resources to help perpetuate SafeHouse’s mission. This week’s opening of a new facility is a testament to that generosity.
