JEMISON – The Shelby County Wildcats passed their last test before the postseason with flying colors as they dominated the Jemison Panthers en route to a road victory.
Shelby County defeated Jemison 57-37 on Thursday, Jan. 30 at Jemison High School to close out the regular season with a 16-6 record.
Kenna’d Buie played a big role in that as she scored 30 of her team’s 57 points, and she got into the scoring action early with eight points in the first quarter. She got some key help from Sanyia Floyd’s seven first-quarter points and Morgan Arnold’s first five points of the night.
Combined with a strong defensive effort, that was enough to put the Wildcats up 22-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Buie continued to dominate from there, scoring eight points in the second quarter while Emily Dixon scored Shelby County’s other four points in a 12-point quarter for the offense.
While the scoring pace was slower than it was in the first, the Wildcats remained in command thanks to their double-digit lead, which grew to 34-18 at the halftime break.
Buie and Kaydence Connell kept Jemison at bay in the third quarter with a pair of field goals each. Shelby County outscored the Panthers 10-7 during the third and led 44-25 going into the fourth quarter.
Buie didn’t rest from there as she dropped 10 more points in the fourth quarter to seal her 30-point performance and the 20-point win for her team.
Behind Buie’s stellar night, Floyd and Arnold each finished with seven points, Dixon scored six points and Connell had four points in the victory.
