CHELSEA – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents of the Narrows subdivision to shelter in place following a series of fired gunshots at around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

The SCSO was attempting to serve a court order on a man who lives on the 200 block of Narrows Drive off of U.S. Highway 280 in Chelsea.

Upon arrival at the residence, shots were fired at deputies, however, no one was injured. The man has barricaded himself inside the home, and deputies have withdrawn from their approach and created a perimeter at the scene.

The SCSO has asked residents within the subdivision to not leave their homes and instead shelter in place until further notice.

Since the withdrawal, deputies have attempted to make negotiations with the subject, and have been in cooperation with their tactical response unit and crisis management team to help handle the situation.

Chief Clay Hammac stated that they are ultimately trying to reach a peaceful resolution with the man and that preservation of life is of the highest priority at this time.

As more updates become available, the SCSO will post them to their official Facebook page.
