HOOVER – The Spain Park Jaguars flew out of the gate to help them cruise to victory ahead of their final area game of the regular season.

Spain Park defeated the Center Point Eagles 55-14 on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Jag Arena in a game that was rescheduled from Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The Jags got out to an 18-0 run to start the game and established a commanding double-digit lead that they carried on to victory.

Abby Whatley’s five first-quarter points and Nylah Calhoun’s four points in the same stretch helped lead the way for the Spain Park offense with six different players combining for 18 points.

The Jags shut out the Eagles on the defensive end to take an 18-0 lead into the second quarter.

Center Point finally found the scoreboard in the second quarter and scored seven more points before halftime, but Spain Park continued firing from deep. Tori Flournoy knocked down two 3-pointers to add to her one from the first while Kamia Dawsey scored five to give her seven for the half.

Thanks in part to that trio of 3-pointers, the Jags extended their lead to 31-7 going into halftime.

Ava Leonard took over in the third quarter, scoring six points to lead the way for the Spain Park offense. She was one of six Jags to score in the third quarter, including Campbell Busby, who scored a 3-pointer to get onto the scoresheet for the first time.

Spain Park continued to keep Center Point at bay and led 48-13 going into the fourth quarter.

From there, the Jags cruised and build on their already-commanding lead. With the Eagles scoring just one point in the fourth, Flournoy added five points to her total to seal the 41-point win.

Flournoy led Spain Park with 16 points. Leonard scored eight points, Dawsey had seven points and Calhoun earned six points. In addition, Abby Whatley posted five points and Teagan Huey finished with four points in the victory.
