Shelby County Schools to close on Jan. 21 due to winter weather

Due to the oncoming threat of winter weather, Shelby County Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

All schools in the district will be closed on Jan. 21 and students will transition to remote learning. All extracurricular activities on Jan. 21 are canceled.

According to National Weather Birmingham, located in Calera, Shelby County is currently under a cold weather advisory from 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20 through 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. NWS expects wind chills of 5 to 15 degrees and temperatures of 10 to 20 degrees.

NWS recommends that individuals use caution while traveling outside and wear appropriate attire. To prevent freezing and possible bursts of pipes, it is suggested that individuals should wrap or drain pipes or allow them to drip.
