CHELSEA – Chelsea residents can look forward to a new brand making an entrance in the city as the local Winn-Dixie shuts its doors and becomes an ALDI.

The Winn-Dixie, located at 150 Chelsea Corners, is closing down in March but will reopen in its new form in the months to follow.

ALDI purchased around 400 Southeastern Grocers’ Winn-Dixie and Harvey Supermarkets locations in 2023, with many taking part in the process of operating under the ALDI brand. However, some of the locations will continue to run under their original logo.

In July 2024, the Winn-Dixie locations in both Pinson and Bessemer began converted into ALDI’s as part of the process for the German brand to add 800 more locations across the country by the end of 2028. Currently, the future of the Winn-Dixie in Inverness Corners is still uncertain as news has not been announced on whether it will join the conversion process.

Prior to ALDI’s purchasing of the former southeastern grocery store giant, the state of Alabama was home to 39 locations out of the more than 500 locations across the country. Other locations in the state that have already been, or are still undergoing rebranding, include Northport, Semmes, Mobile and Auburn.
