ALABASTER – Members of the Alabaster City Schools Board of Education took time to honor the school system’s 2024-2025 Teachers of the Year during a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Jan. 13.
“We have amazing educators across ACS,” BOE President Adam Moseley said. “Recognizing those at the top of their profession proves a huge honor for them and a point of pride for the Board of Education. Our school system is so fortunate to have these dedicated individuals serving our students in unique and meaningful ways.”
Every year, each school in the district designates one special educator to be their respective teacher of the year before the school system names its two overall winners.
“We are always pleased to recognize our outstanding teachers,” ACS Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers said. “These are not only quality educators, but quality people. They show up every day with a passion for learning and they teach our students in extraordinary ways.”
The following ACS teachers were named Teacher of the Year at their respective schools:
- Creek View Elementary School – GRC teacher Morgan Quisenberry
- Meadow View Elementary School – Third grade teacher Olivia Cushing
- Thompson Intermediate School – Fourth grade reading and English language arts teacher Christy O’Dell
- Thompson Middle School – Eighth grade math teacher Kim Miranda
- Thompson High School – Math and dual enrollment teacher Avery Horton
During the ACS Board of Education meeting, all five ACS Teachers of the Year were honored with plaques and praise before the district proceeded to name its overall winners.
Cushing received the honor of being named the ACS Elementary Teacher of the Year and Miranda was named the ACS Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Both Cushing and Miranda will go on to compete at the state level in running for Alabama Teacher of the Year. The awards ceremony for Alabama Teacher of the Year will take place in May 2025 and the program is administered by the Alabama State Department of Education.
