VINCENT – The Vincent Yellow Jackets bounced back from two tough losses in a row to B.B. Comer and Winterboro with a dominant performance in area play.
Vincent got back on track with an 86-33 win over the Ranburne Bulldogs on Thursday, Jan. 9 at Vincent Middle High School to improve to 2-1 in the area.
The Jackets came flying out of the gate and utilized their deep rotation to keep Ranburne guessing. Seven different Vincent players scored in the first quarter as Camari Keller dropped six points and Phoenix Maxwell started out with a pair of baskets as well for four points.
However, the biggest contributions came from deep as four different Jackets hit a 3-pointer in the opening period, including Zahmir McMillan who scored twice from behind the arc.
Vincent backed up its strong offensive start on defense to take a 26-5 lead into the second quarter.
The Jackets remained in control in the second quarter, dropping 18 points led by five from Tyson Youngblood, four for Grahm Harry and a 3-pointer from Jay Posey as each player scored their first points of the game.
Ranburne found more of an offensive rhythm in the second, but it wasn’t enough to stop Vincent from growing its halftime lead to 44-13.
The Bulldogs knocked down a trio of 3-pointers in the third quarter, but the Jackets countered with their highest-scoring quarter of the game.
Eight different Vincent players scored in the third led by seven points from Skylar McCrimon to get him into double figures, five from Landon Archer and four from Keller. In addition, four Jackets hit 3-pointers during that stretch to extend the lead to 73-26 at the end of the third.
Vincent continued to cruise from there and used its wide lead to secure the 55-point victory.
Keller led the Jackets with 12 points and McMillan and McCrimon each scored 11 points. Youngblood, Maxwell and Kash Dobson finished with eight points apiece while Harry had seven points, Posey earned five points and Taye Robertson scored four points.
Vincent will look to improve on its 7-10 overall record and 2-1 mark in area play in its next area game on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. against the Horseshoe Bend Generals at home at Vincent Middle High School.
