Anquon Fegans, Jared Smith and Trent Seaborn have company as Dedrick Kimbrough is the fourth player from the Thompson Warriors to earn MaxPreps All-American honors.
Kimbrough received a place on the MaxPreps Freshman All-American Second Team when the national high school sports outlet released its list on Thursday, Jan. 9.
The freshman receiver was the lone player from Alabama to earn a selection to the Freshman All-American Team.
Kimbrough broke out in a big way for the Warriors, stepping up in a season when the team needed a reliable, explosive receiver, and he came up with big plays down the stretch.
Kimbrough played in just six games as a freshman but made an impact in each of those appearances, finishing the year with 390 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Those came off just 22 receptions, giving him an average of 17.7 yards per catch as he became a reliable downfield option for his now fellow All-American Seaborn at quarterback.
Kimbrough made an impact in two of Thompson’s biggest games of the season, leading the team in receiving yards with 91 and a touchdown off four catches in an upset of No. 1 Auburn High School and securing two passes for 44 yards in the state championship game.
His contributions on offense helped the Warriors return to the mountaintop and defeat Central-Phenix City for the Class 7A state championship, securing the program’s fourth state championship in the past five years and sixth in its history.
As a result, Kimbrough secured a place on the All-County Second Team for the first time in his young career, making him one of 15 players from Thompson to earn All-County honors.
This is now the second-straight season that the Warriors have landed a player on the MaxPreps Freshman All-American Team after Seaborn won the site’s National Freshman of the Year award in 2023 to land on the Freshman All-American First Team.
