Once again, two Thompson Warriors earned honors from one of the nation’s top high school sports outlets as they capped off their careers in Alabaster as two of the nation’s best senior prospects.

Anquon Fegans and Jared Smith were named MaxPreps All-Americans on Monday, Jan. 6. Fegans earned First Team defensive honors while Smith was selected to the Second Team defense.

This is Fegans’ third-straight year that he has earned a MaxPreps All-American First Team selection as he secured honors in his junior season in 2023 and sophomore season in 2022. He was also a Preseason All-American First Team spot ahead of the 2024 season.

Fegans was nominated for Class 7A Back of the Year in 2024 as he secured a finalist spot for the third-straight season. He is also the 2024 Shelby County Player of the Year after a standout season with the Warriors.

Fegans finished his senior season with six interceptions, 80 tackles, seven pass deflections, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries as well as three defensive touchdowns from the safety spot while earning selections for the Class 7A All-State First Team and All-County First Team.

As for Smith, this is his first All-American selection from MaxPreps after he dominated the defensive line for Thompson in 2024.

Smith finished with 87 tackles, a county-high 8.5 sacks and five tackles for loss along with 23 quarterback hurries, four pass breakups and an interception.

Smith is a finalist for Class 7A Lineman of the Year after also securing Class 7A All-State First Team and All-County First Team selections.

Fegans and Smith also both recently represented the Warriors at the Under Armour All-American Game on Thursday, Jan. 2. Fegans finished the ESPN2-televised showcase with two tackles and a pass breakup.

Both Fegans and Smith have signed to compete at the next level at Auburn University, and they will now head to the SEC as All-American selections.

The pair were an instrumental part in Thompson’s state championship season as the Warriors defeated Central-Phenix City for their fourth Class 7A state title in the past five seasons.
