ACS superintendent named to DALI Leaders of Distinction

ALABASTER – Alabaster City Schools Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers was named a national finalist for the Leaders of Distinction award.
The District Administration Leadership Institute bestowed the award to Vickers during its annual summit the week of Dec. 18. According to DALI, the Leaders of Distinction category honors individuals that are spearheading groundbreaking initiatives and are inspiring educational progress within their districts. Vickers was one of nine individuals to receive the honor.
Vickers received the award for his leadership and strategies which assisted the school system in the creation of its first workforce center—the ACS Champions Craft Academy. When the program opens for classes in fall 2025, the initial wave of trades offered to students will be construction, welding and electrical. Students will acquire knowledge, skills and certifications throughout their time in the academy.
Vickers has more than 30 years of experience in education and has served as a superintendent for nearly 20 years at three separate school systems. From 2009 to 2013, Vickers served as the superintendent of education for the Saraland City School system after its separation from Mobile County Public Schools. He also previous served as the superintendent of education for Demopolis City Schools. He was named the first superintendent of Alabaster City Schools in July 2013 and has served in that role since. Vickers currently served as the president of the School Superintendents of Alabama and is a member of the National Executive Committee of the School Superintendents Association.
