BIRMINGHAM – The property that was once host to Lloyd’s Restaurant on Highway 280 has been sold by its family for $5 million.

The land was sold in mid-December in two separate pieces after the restaurant shut down, following the passing of its owner Eli Stevens in 2023.

The two addresses that were sold were 5301 Hwy 280, which was where the physical restaurant was located, and 5305 Hwy 280, which was the location of the restaurant’s parking lot.

PMS Shelby sold the property for 5301 Hwy 280 through Tom Stevens for $3 million to JAD3 Hwy 280 LLC on Dec. 16, which includes a total of 2.5 acres of land.

The parking lot holds 1.59 acres and was sold by Bogue Stevens from Eli’s, Inc. to the same company for $2 million on Dec. 11, totaling more than four acres of land for the entire property.

JAD3 Hwy 280 LLC is associated with a parent property development company in GENREV Properties, which is based in Jefferson County.

The Lloyd’s Restaurant location on Hwy 280 closed on Oct. 15, 2023 after serving the Chelsea and Hwy 280 area for nearly 86 years.

It opened in 1937 in the Chelsea area by Lloyd Chesser and was sold to Eli Stevens in 1971 after Chesser announced his retirement. After a few years, Stevens relocated the restaurant to the new Hwy 280 corridor, where it remained until its closing last year.

The Sylacauga location of Lloyd’s Restaurant also shut down and closed its doors on Oct. 29, 2023. Owner Bogue Stevens previously shared plans to open a new Birmingham location in late 2024.
