ALABASTER – Residents can look forward to a new experience in 2025 as Kiku Asian Express in Alabaster transforms into Wasabi Japanese Sushi and Bar.

Just shy of its one year anniversary, Kiku Asian Express announced on Dec. 16 that it was temporarily closing due to unforeseen circumstances. The business later took to social media on Saturday, Dec. 28 to announce that it was rebranding.

“Exciting Changes are happening,” read the official Facebook post by Kiku Asian Express. “Kiku is officially transforming into a Wasabi Japanese Sushi and Bar. Get ready for a brand-new name, a bold new vibe and an elevated dining experience you won’t want to miss.”

With this new change, the business is hoping to deliver a “truly special” experience to tables with fresh sushi rolls and Japanese-inspired dishes. The restaurant confirmed that it will continue to offer ramen and poke bowls on its menu.

The business shared that exclusive updates and sneak peeks are set to come in the future, including a grand opening at a date to be determined.

Kiku Asian Express previously held its grand opening on Dec. 18, 2023 at 390 South Colonial Drive. The Alabaster location marked the first Kiku Asian Express to open in Shelby County with the company’s original business located in Dothan. The restaurant featured a self-service style ordering system with a wide array of poke bowls, teriyaki bowls, ramen, appetizers and boba milk teas for customers to choose from.
