COLUMBIANA – This holiday season, Shelby Humane will bring extra cheer to its shelter animals with the fourth annual installment of its ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas event on Monday, Dec. 23.

During the event, every dog in the shelter will enjoy a festive homemade meal featuring turkey or chicken with vegetables, followed by a special dessert.

“Each pup will also receive a cozy new blanket and a chew toy,” read an official release from Shelby Humane. “Our feline friends won’t be left out—they’ll each receive two fun, interactive toys, too.”

Santa Claus himself will make a special stop at Shelby Humane to deliver gifts and spread holiday joy to the shelter’s furry residents.

Cats will receive crinkle balls, a spring toy, baby sock toy, pipe cleaners and Churru. Dogs will receive a home-cooked meal, a new blanket and toys/treats. After their meal, all the dogs will be taken out for a walk by a large group of volunteers.

The event will take place on Dec. 23 with setup at 12:30 p.m., dog serving at 1 p.m. and Santa visiting flexibly from 1-1:30 p.m.

This year’s event will be hosted by Youth Leader, Parker Verant, an eighth grade student at Oak Mountain Middle School and member of the Best Friends of Shelby Humane. Parker has worked as a volunteer at the shelter, along with his mom, Kristy, since he was eight years old.

“This magical night is made possible through the generosity of Shelby Humane supporters,” read a realease from Shelby Humane.

A donation of just $10 provides a holiday treat for one animal, while $15 will sponsor three animals. Donations are accepted via Venmo: @BestFriendsofSHS and PayPal: search for bestfriends@shelbyhumane.org.

The shelter is at max capacity for dogs and is running a $5 adoption special on all dogs that are more than six months old.

“Help us make this a Christmas to remember for the animals at Shelby Humane,” read a release from Shelby Humane. “Donations will ensure every dog and cat in our care feels the love and warmth of the season.”
