Two injured, two arrested after shooting at Meriweather subdivision

CALERA – Two individuals are being transported to UAB after a shooting occurred in the Meriweather subdivision in Calera.

At 3:09 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, the Calera Police Department was notified by a caller that a shooting had occurred in the Meriweather subdivision. All available officers responded to the scene and determined upon arrival that two individuals had been shot. Officers continued to render aid until Calera fire medics arrived.

Descriptions of the suspects in the shooting were immediately broadcast and within approximately 20 minutes the two suspects were located and arrested.

Two individuals were injured during the shooting and required medical attention with one transported to UAB by helicopter and the other my ambulance.

The Calera Police Department is currently conducting an investigation and processing the crime scene.

“Shootings like this are a rare occurrence in Calera, and we want to keep it that way,” Chief of Police David Hyche said. “We have put all available Calera resources along with a team from the Shelby County Major Crimes Task Force on this investigation. Our goal is to conduct a thorough and complete investigation and refer the individuals responsible for prosecution through the Shelby County DAs Office.”
