HOOVER – Spain Park High School received the honor of being named to the 2024 Advanced Placement Program School Honor Roll, achieving the Silver distinction for the 2023-2024 school year.
This recognition from the College Board celebrates SPHS’s dedication to both expanding access to AP programs and delivering strong results, reflecting the school’s commitment to fostering a college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit and enhancing college readiness. SPHS celebrates this achievement alongside Hoover High School, which also secured a place on the AP School Honor Roll.
“Being recognized by the AP School Honor Roll is a tremendous honor and a testament to our school’s dedication to empowering our students to excel academically,” SPHS Principal Dr. Amanda Esslinger said. “This achievement showcases the dedication and effort of our teachers and students in meeting high standards and achieving success.”
Last year, more than 1,095 AP exams were taken by 430 SPHS students and 85 percent of the students scored a 3 or higher, making them eligible for college credit.
2023-2024 SPHS AP Program Details:
- 24 AP Courses Taken by Students
- 54 Sections Taught
“I couldn’t be prouder of our students and teachers for earning this recognition on the AP School Honor Roll,” SPHS AP Coordinator Jim Reinsch said. “This accomplishment reflects their hard work, resilience and academic commitment. Being part of a school community that strives for greatness is a true honor. Go Jags.”
College Board’s AP Program enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond. Taking AP courses demonstrates to college admissions officers that students have sought the most challenging curriculum available to them.
This recognition highlights SPHS’s commitment to offering a high-quality education that equips students for success in the future. By expanding access to AP courses and maintaining rigorous academic standards, SPHS reinforces its dedication to academic excellence to provide all students with opportunities for growth and achievement.
