HARPERSVILLE — Old Baker Farm is preparing to welcome visitors for the upcoming Christmas season. Its Christmas Tree Farm will open to the public on Friday, Nov. 29, the day after Thanksgiving.
Admission to the Christmas Tree Farm is free for all visitors. Visitors will choose and cut their own tree from a variety of types of trees like: Virginia Pines, Leyland Cypress, Carolina Sapphire, Arizona Sapphire, Limited Red Cedars and Fraser Firs.
“We supply everything they needs to cut and secure the trees for them to be transported home,” said Pam Baker, owner and manager of Old Baker Farm.
The Christmas Tree Farm will be open starting Nov. 29 and remain open seven days a week until Tuesday, Dec. 24. The farm will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
“We will also have complimentary hot apple cider and candy canes, and we will have a hayride through the Christmas trees for everyone that visits,” Baker said.
Although admission is free, Christmas tree prices begin at $30. Prices will vary depending on size and type of tree. Tree stands are not included in the price but will be available for purchase on site.
Each tree purchased will be shaken to remove any dead needles, then netted and prepared for the trip home.
“The trees take about five years to grow into a Christmas tree after they’re planted, so we ask that everyone only cuts trees that are tagged for this season,” Baker said.
In addition to its Christmas Tree Farm, Old Baker Farm will have its annual Christmas on the Farm event on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The event will include an appearance from Santa Claus, Christmas caroling, crafts, local food trucks, a live nativity scene and a hayride.
“For us it’s all about celebrating the birth of the Lord,” Baker said. “That’s why we have the live nativity. It’s a fun event for all, but our main purpose is to celebrate the birth of Christ.”
Admission for Christmas on the Farm is $13 per person.
