Columbiana plans annual Christmas parade, weekly December festivities

COLUMBIANA – Christmas is a busy season for the city of Columbiana which has a series of festive events set to entertain residents all throughout the month of December.

Each Friday night in December, Columbiana will shut down south Main Street for holiday activities and Old Mill Square will become a snowy winter wonderland.

“Christmas is a magical time in Columbiana,” read an official post on the city’s website. “Snow around the fountain, the lights over Main Street, beautiful shops, warm drinks, meeting with friends, Christmas trees in the park, all of it together is truly special. We hope you will come and experience the magic of Columbiana at Christmas for yourself.”

Columbiana will kick off the month of December with its first series of festivities on Friday Dec. 6 which will include the city’s tree lighting and the annual Columbiana Christmas Parade on Main Street.

The parade for this year’s theme will be “I’ll be home for Christmas.” Line up for the parade will begin at the Shelby County License Office at 6:20 p.m. and the parade will begin at 7 p.m. Candy will be thrown to the crowd during the parade.

Those wearing a Santa suit, Santa beard or those in a Mrs. Claus costume will be turned away from participating in the parade. The following events are also planned for Dec. 6 at the following times:

  • 4 p.m. – Columbiana Main Street cookies with Santa and the Shelby County Museum and Archives
  • 5 p.m. – Food trucks, carriage rides and snow in Old Mill Square
  • 5:45 p.m. – Dream Makers Dancers at Old Mill Square Amphitheater
  • 6 p.m. – Shelby County Arts Council’s Artist Market at Grande Hall
  • 6:30 p.m. – Shelby County High School choir performance on Main Street’s stage
  • 6:45 p.m. – Tree lighting on Main Street
  • 7 p.m. – Columbiana Christmas Parade
  • 8 p.m. – Santa Claus visit Old Mill Square Park

The follow festivities are set for Saturday, Dec. 7:

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Shelby County Arts Council Artist Market at Grande Hall
  • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Be Merry on Main Street featuring specials at shops, drinking holes and eateries
  • 1-5 p.m. – Beautification Board’s Christmas Tour of Homes

The following holiday activities are planned for Friday, Dec. 13:

  • 5-8 p.m. – Food trucks and snow in Old Mill Square Park
  • 6 p.m. – Showing of the movie “Elf” on Columbiana Main Street
  • 6-8 p.m. – Polar Express in Old Mill Square Park

The following Christmas-themed events will take place on Friday, Dec. 20:

  • 5-8 p.m. – Food trucks, carriage rides and snow in Old Mill Square Park
  • 6-8 p.m. – Polar Express train and Santa in Old Mill Square Park
  • 6 p.m. – Music by Rose Colored Glasses in Old Mill Square Park
  • 6 p.m. – Showing of the movie “Polar Express” on Main Street.

The following festivities are planned for the final night of Christmas celebrations on Friday, Dec. 27:

  • 5 p.m. – Food trucks and snow in Old Mill Square Park
  • 6 p.m. – Music with DJ Ricky with Ruston Entertainment on Main Street
  • 8 p.m. – Countdown and confetti cannons on Main Street
