U.S. News & World Report ranks Alabaster schools

ALABASTER – Alabaster City Schools’ elementary and middle schools have been ranked and added to U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Elementary Schools and Best Middle Schools lists.
U.S. News & World Report ranked schools based on their performance on state-required tests, graduation rate and how well they prepare students for their next level of education. According to U.S. News, ACS earned a Best Elementary Schools badge for two of its schools and a Best Middle Schools badge for two of its middle schools for placing among the top 40 percent in the state.
Creek View Elementary School received an overall score of 93.54 out of 100 and ranked at No. 44 out of 1,149 Alabama elementary schools. CVES was ranked under reading proficiency at No. 95, math proficiency at No. 45 with performance in both areas listed as well above expectations. At CVES, 64 percent of students scored at or above the proficient level for math and 70 percent scored at or above the level for reading.
Meadow View Elementary School received an overall score of 95.05 out of 100 and ranked at No. 34 in Alabama Elementary Schools. MVES was ranked at No. 69 for reading proficiency and at No. 33 for math proficiency with performance in both areas listed as well above expectations. At MVES, 67 percent of students score at or above the proficient level for math and 73 percent scored at or above the level for reading.
Thompson Intermediate School received an overall score of 90.49 out of 100 and ranked at No. 42 out of 921 Alabama middle schools. TIS was ranked at No. 81 in reading proficiency and at No. 33 for math proficiency. According to U.S. News, the school’s reading performance is considered somewhat above expectations and its math performance is considered well above expectations. At TIS, 44 percent of students scored at or above the proficient level for math and 60 percent scored at or above the level for reading.
Thompson Middle School received an overall score of 72.16 out of 100 and was ranked at No. 121 in Alabama Middle Schools. TMS was ranked No. 81 for reading proficiency—tying with TIS—and at No. 131 for math proficiency with performance in both areas considered somewhat above expectations. At TMS, 23 percent of students scored at or above the proficient level for math and 60 percent scored at or above the level for reading.
While the 2025 rankings have not been released, THS previously received a Best High School badge from U.S. news with an overall score of 71.67 out of 100. Thompson High School ranked at No. 68 out of 384 Alabama public high schools. THS was ranked at No. 25 for college readiness index rank and at No. 22 for college curriculum breadth index rank with a state assessment proficiency rank of No. 105 and state assessment performance rank of No. 241. THS has a 64.7 percentile score on the ACT which is considered well below expectations by U.S. News and THS’ national percentile on college-level exams is at 83.2 percent. The school’s U.S. News scorecard indicates a 25 percent proficiency in mathematics and a 27 percent proficiency in reading.
