American Village Colonial Christmas Luncheons and Tours set for Dec. 10-14

MONTEVALLO – Every year the American Village celebrates the Christmas season with a series of Colonial Christmas Luncheons and Tours and this year’s installments are set for Tuesday, Dec. 10 through Saturday, Dec. 14.
“It’s the perfect way for your family, club, church group, or office to kick off the Christmas season,” read an official press release from American Village.
The American Village will be decorated in all its Christmas finery, with fresh garland and wreaths. Guests will be transported back to Colonial times, and learn how the American Revolutionary War affected families at Christmastime, each contributing to America’s fight for freedom in their own individual ways.
They will meet men from Marblehead who have gone to fight in General Washington’s Army, and learn of the difficulties and triumphs they faced at the Battle of Trenton on Christmas Day of 1776. The wives they left behind at home in Marblehead tell their stories, and guests will see firsthand how being strong and supporting each other in their husbands’ absences is their great and difficult contribution.
There is also have a comedic scene set in New York, where a woman named Mary Lindley Murray, who, along with her daughter, must charm and entertain General Howe and his redcoat officers at her home just long enough for a large portion of General Washington’s army to retreat from Kip’s Bay and escape to safety. Washington’s troops were outnumbered significantly, and they narrowly avoided a deadly redcoat entanglement thanks to Murray.
At lunchtime, everyone gets to meet Eliza Hamilton, who will entertain guests with stories of her life and her famous husband’s experiences during the war in 1776 and beyond.
“She talks of Christmastime from her perspective, and she, like the rest of our characters this year reminds us that we all must be willing to contribute to America’s cause for freedom in our own unique ways,” read a release from American Village.
Jim–n-Nick’s will cater this year’s Christmas luncheons at American Village, and the menu will be smoked turkey, dressing, vegetable sides, cheese biscuits and dessert.
