Prayers, support surround family of Montevallo 10-year-old after passing away

MONTEVALLO – Community support and prayers have poured in over the last 24 hours after the tragic death of a local 10-year-old girl in Montevallo on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
More than seven days after she was hit riding her scooter in Montevallo, Ember Poe passed away due to the injuries suffered.
Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans and family and friends on social media have confirmed that Montevallo Elementary School student passed away in a heartbreaking situation.
She was hit by a vehicle on Tuesday, Nov. 5 between Orr Park and Shoal Creek at the 300 block of Spring Creek Road.
That evening around 5:13 p.m., Montevallo Police and Fire responded to a pedestrian traffic accident that involved a vehicle.
When they arrived, officers discovered Poe with life-threatening injuries. Fire and rescue personnel immediately provided medical care before she was transported to Children’s of Alabama via Southeast Shelby Rescue.
The Montevallo Police Department’s Investigation Division then requested assistance from the Shelby County Traffic Homicide Task Force.
Currently, the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is urged to reach out to Detective Sgt. Pete Reese at 205-665-1264.
The driver of the car did stop at the scene, but it is unclear if there will be charges filed or an arrest made in the incident. As details emerge, updates will be provided.
Since the incident occurred, many people across Montevallo have come together in support of the family with prayers and a helping hand.
A GoFundMe page was quickly set up and has garnered 263 donations totaling $14,780 to help go toward medical costs, supporting the family during a difficult time and any other costs that may arise from a difficult situation.
