With Nov. 5 just around the corner, we at the Shelby County Reporter would like to encourage all residents, no matter their affiliation, to go out and vote.
From judges and justices to county commissioners and the future president of the United States, this election is an important one and will shape the future of Shelby County. We wholeheartedly encourage residents to vote for the candidate that best represents their viewpoint and perspective.
Shelby County has plenty of room for growth and improvement and the election process plays a key role in the selection of the right policymakers and stakeholders having the opportunity to make the changes you want to see.
It’s all too easy for Americans to get caught up in the excitement of the controversy of choosing a new president every four years but it’s also important to remember the important role that local officials, such as county commissioners, also play. Sometimes local officials even play a more significant in affecting your day-to-day life than federal ones.
Do you want more parks? Do you want improved infrastructure? What are the potential candidates’ positions on taxes? Do they believe in supporting the local school systems? Will this candidate bring about enhanced growth to the housing and retail markets? Keep all of these factors in mind and vote for the person you think will keep Shelby County a great place to live and make it even better.
In the grand scheme of things voting is such a special and novel opportunity. Not everyone in history has had the opportunity to vote, so why not take that to heart and exercise that right to its fullest extent.
