Two county teams stayed put in this week’s football media rankings while the Thompson Warriors took a big drop after their latest defeat.

The Spain Park Jaguars and Vincent Yellow Jackets maintained their spots in the Week 10 rankings when the Alabama Sports Writers Association released them on Wednesday, Oct. 23, while Thompson dropped four places and the Helena Huskies received one vote.

Thompson tumbled down four spots to No. 7 after narrowly falling 27-26 to Hoover in overtime, the third one-point overtime loss of the season by the Warriors. They received 84 votes this week, six behind undefeated No. 6 Austin.

Thompson will look to close its regular season on a high note as it hosts Prattville on Oct. 25 ahead of a bye week and then a home first round game on Nov. 8 as the No. 2 seed in Class 7A, Region 3.

Spain Park stayed at No. 4 with 133 votes even as multiple teams around them moved around, with Parker jumping to No. 2, Oxford taking the No. 3 spot and Clay-Chalkville slipping to No. 5.

The Jags took care of business in Week 9, defeating Calera 42-7 to clinch their first region title since 2015. Now, Spain Park will face Chilton County on the road in hopes of improving to 9-0 and finishing off a perfect region record.

Vincent remained at No. 9 in the Class 2A rankings this week with 43 votes after its 49-42 win over Isabella in Week 9.

The Jackets are 7-1 on the season and will travel to Greene County on Oct. 25 for their final region game of the 2024 season. They are locked in as the No. 2 seed and will host North Sand Mountain on Nov. 8 in the first round.

Helena received one vote from the media as it continues to find success in region play. The Huskies beat Chelsea 38-28 to extend their winning streak to three games in a row, clinching the No. 2 seed in the process with a 5-3 record.

Helena will close out the regular season on Oct. 25 with a short road trip to Calera.

Across the state, the No. 2 ranked teams in Class 7A, 6A and 5A all lost in Week 9, leading to a big shakeup in the top classifications due to the losses from Central-Phenix City, Clay-Chalkville and Guntersville.
