HELENA – The Patch at Helena Hollow opened at the beginning of October with more than 20 attractions for its visitors. While some of the attraction like the pipe slides and tire swings are targeted to occupy children, owner Amy Griffin says the main goal is to provide fun for the whole family.

“We always try to offer a unique experience for each event that we offer,” Griffin said. “I never want what we offer to seem like old news, so we try to bring new things in and streamline different processes.”

The Helena Hollow’s main attraction may be the pumpkin patch, but the business also offers dozens of activities and attractions for everyone. Adults take part in the slides and games all across the farm.

“Pumpkin season is fun and all over the place, maybe even chaotic, but in the best way,” Griffin said.

This is Helena Hollow’s eighth season of operation for The Patch, which is something it started while trying to create new memories with their children.

“One of my favorite quotes is, ‘create the things you wish existed,’” Griffin said. “When our daughters were little, we got brave enough to create the place we wished for when it came to seasonal activities and traditions.”

Griffin said that during the very first season they were young and inexperienced, so the operation was quite a bit smaller than it is today.

“We had maybe five attractions,” Griffin said.

Over the years Helena Hollow has grown in more ways than one. With a large pumpkin patch and a greater number of activities, they believe they’ve created a place for everyone in the Birmingham area to enjoy.

With the season coming to a close, Griffin hopes to see new faces for the final weekend. The Patch will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, October 25 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
