TRUSSVILLE – The Oak Mountain Eagles could not stop the explosive offense of the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies, falling 63-0 on Friday, Oct. 18 at Hewitt-Trussville High School.
The Huskies got off to a hot start for their first possession. After a three-and-out by the Eagles, the Hewitt offense began their drive at the Oak Mountain 42-yard line. The offense found the end zone four plays later to give the Huskies a 7-0 early in the first quarter.
The next Oak Mountain possession was short-lived as the Eagles would lose a fumble in their territory three plays into their drive.
The Huskies took quick advantage of the short field with running back CJ Davis punching in a score from one yard out to extend the Huskies’ lead to 14-0 early in the first quarter.
The next Eagles offensive drive saw them get behind the sticks early following an illegal procedure penalty. Oak Mountain never recovered and was forced to punt.
Now operating with yet another short field at the 50-yard line, Hewitt found the end zone again, this time through the air as quarterback Noah Dobbins found receiver Ty Wilkinson to make their lead 21-0 near the end of the first quarter.
After forcing another Oak Mountain three-and-out, Hewitt would strike once more to close out the quarter as Alston would take a 52-yard run for six to make the game’s score 28-0.
Shortly into the second quarter and back with possession of the football, Hewitt embarked on another lengthy offensive drive moving from their 30-yard line to the end zone. Davis capped this drive off with a 27-yard touchdown run to add to their hefty total and made the score 35-0.
The next Eagles drive showed promise after quarterback Will O’Dell ran for a 40-yard gain on third down to get Oak Mountain to the Husky 30-yard line and into plus territory for the first time of the night.
The Eagles would make their way to the 21-yard line before facing a fourth-down situation. Oak Mountain elected to go for the field goal attempt. Unfortunately, the offensive woes for the Eagles continued as the 38-yard attempt was blocked by the Huskies to keep the game’s score in place.
Hewitt began the next offensive drive with an explosive play from Alston, who took a jet sweep from the Husky 44-yard line into Eagles territory and into the red zone. Parker Floyd would take it from there and score from two yards out to take a commanding 42-0 lead entering halftime.
The Eagles defense came out strong in the second half, forcing the Huskies to punt on their first possession. Oak Mountain moved the ball well on their first offensive possession of the half before a fumble cut the drive short.
On the first play of the following possession, Alston took a 31-yard run in for the score to give the Huskies an overwhelming 49-0 lead, a few minutes into the third quarter.
The Eagles offense would continue to stall for their following possession, opening the door for Hewitt to add on another score off a Davis touchdown run to make the lead 56-0.
Entering the fourth quarter, Hewitt added one more score to their final tally off a 38-yard touchdown run from Jayden Berry to close out this game at 63-0.
O’Dell went 10-18 with 63 passing yards to go along with 35 yards on the ground. Running back Mason Mitchell finished the night with 10 yards on the ground. Receiver Zach Fitzgerald had six receptions for 49 yards. Linebacker Colton Moore had four tackles and a sack.
Oak Mountain now falls to 3-5 on the year. The Eagles will aim to get back into the win column when they take on the Hillcrest Patriots on Oct. 25 at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa.
