MUSCLE SHOALS – The Thompson Warriors geared up for the string of busy days to come in the Class 7A playoffs with a quad match at Muscle Shoals High School.

Thompson defeated the Southside-Gadsden Panthers and Cullman Bearcats in straight sets and lost to the Muscle Shoals Trojans 2-0 on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The Warriors faced Southside to start out the day and got off on the right foot in the quad match.

Thompson held off the Panthers in the final points of the first set to claim the opening frame 25-21.

From there, the Warriors faced another test from Southside in the second set, but they took the set by an identical scoreline to the first. The 25-21 win gave Thompson a 2-0 sweep victory in the match.

The Warriors were then matched up with hosts Muscle Shoals, and while they played the Trojans close in both sets, they fell in the end.

Muscle Shoals took early control of the match with a 25-21 win, and that paved the way for another victory in the following set.

The Trojans defeated Thompson 25-20 in the second set to win the match in straight sets.

Looking for a bounce-back win to finish out the day, the Warriors got just that in the form of a commanding win over Cullman.

Thompson grabbed hold of the match in the opening set and cruised to a 25-13 victory to go up 1-0 in the match.

After claiming a double-digit victory in the opening set, the Warriors also won the second set by double figures, using a 25-15 win to sweep the match and finish the day with a winning record.

The Warriors will finish out the regular season with their final home match of the year against the Gardendale Rockets on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m.

They will then travel to Oak Mountain High School the next day for the Class 7A, Area 5 Tournament, where they will face the Hoover Buccaneers on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. with a spot in the championship at 7:30 p.m. that night and a super regionals berth on the line.
