TUSCALOOSA – The Thompson Warriors entered Friday night, Oct. 11 still looking for that breakout offensive performance of the year and it came in a big way as sophomore quarterback Trent Seaborn eclipsed 400 yards in a key region win.

The quarterback finished 32-40 for 403 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-20 road victory against Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa to help the Warriors improve to 6-2 overall on the season and 5-0 in region play ahead of a showdown with Hoover to determine the region champion next week.

Seaborn’s big night started fast and furious in the opening quarter with two touchdown passes and he never looked back from there in the dominant effort.

The first touchdown pass came on a 54-yard bomb to RJ Evans that put the Warriors in front 7-0 with 7:37 left in the opening quarter.

Just three minutes later, he was right back at it after a strong defensive stand got the offense the ball back and led to Seaborn hitting Aiden Moseley for an 18-yard touchdown strike.

Now up 14-0, the Warriors were just getting started.

As the game transitioned into the second quarter, Thompson added another score when Mike Dujon capped off a big drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to make it 21-0.

Hillcrest, however, held just within striking distance for much of the night and answered just before the halftime break to make things interesting with a short touchdown run.

The Patriots left too much time for Thompson, however, as the Warriors got into field goal position, which set up John Alan McGuire for a 30-yard field goal as time expired to make it 24-7 at the break.

Thompson then came right out of the half and added to that lead quickly when Seaborn hit Dedrick Kimbrough for a one-handed touchdown grab that made it 31-7 with 9:27 left in the third quarter.

Hillcrest again tried to keep the game interesting by answering late in the third quarter to make it 31-13, but Thompson came back with a response every time.

This time, Seaborn hit Moseley on a strike in the zone near the sideline that ended with the receiver stretching the ball out for his second touchdown catch of the night of 18-plus yards.

Hillcrest added one more score five minutes into the final quarter, but the Warriors also closed the game out with one final score when Dujon went 30 yards to the house for his second touchdown run of the night.

Thompson finished the game with 574 yards of offense in the win.

The Warriors will now host Hoover next Friday in a game that will determine this year’s region champion.
