ALABASTER – The Thompson Warriors capped off the home portion of their schedule in a big way as they took a pair of wins in a tri-match.

Thompson defeated both the Sylacauga Aggies and Vestavia Hills Rebels by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Warrior Arena.

First, the Warriors faced Sylacauga, a team that they ironically faced in their first tri-match of the year on the season’s opening night on Aug. 22.

That match at Sylacauga High School was a 2-0 sweep for Thompson, and their second meeting of the season at Warrior Arena ended the exact same way.

The teams were tightly matched in the opening set, but the Warriors held on in the end to survive the challenge and secure the victory.

Thompson won the opening set 25-22, and that paved the way for an even bigger result in the second set.

The Warriors took control in the second set and never looked back en route to a 25-11 win which sealed the 2-0 sweep.

Thompson then finished out the night with a match against former area foe Vestavia Hills in a showdown that was much closer than the Sylacauga match.

The two sides were neck and neck in the final points of the first set and ended up in a 24-24 tie.

With the set hanging in the balance, the Warriors took the next two points to win the set 26-24 and go up 1-0 in the match.

The second set was much like the first as the tight nature continued and led to another 24-24 tie.

From there, Thompson repeated its feat from the first set and took back-to-back points to earn a 26-24 win once again and sweep the match by the narrowest of margins.

Thompson will hit the road the rest of the way in the 2024 season, starting with a trip to Auburn High School to face the Tigers on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. The team will then travel north to Muscle Shoals High School for a quad match on Saturday, Oct. 12 to finish the regular season.
